Just the other day we reported that Apple could possibly be working on the updated version of its existing AirPods. The Cupertino major could call it the AirPods 2. Apple, however, is yet to reveal official details regarding the launch of the AirPods 2. With the aim to take on Apple AirPods, Xiaomi on Monday launched its first ever “true” wireless earphones called the Mi AirDots Youth Edition. The wireless earphones from Xiaomi have been launched in China for now for a price tag of CNY 199 which when translated to INR comes roughly around Rs 2,100.
It was a long time rumoured that Xiaomi is working on its first ever true wireless earphones and the rumours come true with the launch of the Mi AirDots. Currently, the earphones have been launched in China and are already available for purchase. As of now, there are no words if Xiaomi will bring the Mi AirDots to other markets including India, or not. Well, considering how aggressively Xiaomi has priced the AirDots we expect the wireless earphones to come to India soon. However, as noted, there’s no official confirmation from the company yet.
As for the specifications, the Mi AirDots come packed with the latest Bluetooth v5.0 with a dedicated touch zone on each of the earbuds. By just a finger touch on the touch zone users of the Mi AirDots will be able to enable or disable the voice assistant, play or pause songs, or even answer or reject a call. Interestingly, Xiaomi’s all-new Mi AirDots comes with one similar technology which is also found inside the Apple AirPods — the true wireless stereo (TWS) technology. The TWS technology works towards splitting audio in both the earbuds with the aim to deliver a truly wireless experience.
The Mi AirDots come with 7.2mm audio drivers which Xiaomi claims can produce deep bass and high-quality stereo audio. The earphones don’t come with any physical button to control the music, instead, as also mentioned above, there’s a touch zone which will let users control the playback. Users will just need to place their fingers on the earbuds to control the voice assistant, music or even calls.
With just a finger touch in the touch zone, the users will be able to play or pause music, accept or reject call, enable or disable the voice assistant, and also mute an ongoing call.
The Mi AirDots Youth Edition offers the latest Bluetooth connectivity support — Bluetooth v5.0 — which Xiaomi says consumes less power and offers a longer operating range. In addition to Bluetooth v5.0, the earphones are also compatible with devices with Bluetooth v4.2 or older connectivity options. The Xiaomi Mi AirDots Youth Edition comes with a charging case which charges the earphones when placed on it. The charging case works similar to how AirPods charge using their native case. Xiaomi claims AirDots can deliver up to four hours of playback time on its stereo and five hours when on mono mode on a single charge.
